Season One Time Frame: Spring/Summer-December 1903 Highlights: Sara Stanley is sent to live with her relatives in Avonlea after her father is charged with embezzlement. Despite the harsh discipline of her Aunt Hetty and the pranks from her cousins, Felix and Felicity, Sara manages to adjust. She befriends the shy inventor, Jasper Dale, and together they arrange a magic lantern show to replace stolen library funds. Afterwards, Sara is called the 'Story Girl' and her curiousity takes her on many adventures among the towns most eccentric people. When winter comes, Sara's father is acquitted of the charges and returns to take her home with him. Hetty refuses to depart with her niece however, and an old rivalry is rekindled. Season Two Time Frame: Summer 1904-February 1905 Highlights: Sara becomes grief stricken when her father dies in an accident at Stanley imports. She visits a fortune teller in hopes of reuniting with her father, but is consequently kidnapped. Alec rescues Sara and her reluctant nanny allows her to remain in Avonlea. Hetty recruits a new pupil, Gus Pike, and the King family learns about his mysterious past. Rachel and Marilla adopt twins, Davey and Dora Keith, but Davey proves to be troublesome. Jasper and Olivia become engaged after a rival returns to win Olivia's hand in marriage. Alec forms a hockey team to challenge the town sawmill owner, who is strip cutting trees a mile from Avonlea. During the game, Janet goes into labor. Season Three Time Frame: Summer-Winter 1905/1906 Highlights: Jasper and Olivia are married, despite a bitter fued with Hetty over the wedding arrangements. Sara switches places with a look alike ruffian in order to escape Hetty's disciplinarian methods. Felix starts his own delivery service with the King horse Blackie, but a terrible accident occurs during a competition with a business rival. Felicity is invited to apply for a scholarship at Kingscourt Ladies College in Nova Scotia. In an effort to impress her fellow Kingsport peers, Felicity claims that her real parents were dead and that she was the inheritor of a vast fortune. Marilla Cuthbert dies without a will, leaving Rachel Lynde to fight for Green Gables. Hetty takes a sabbatical from teaching and begins to write pulp romance novels. Clive Pettibone replaces Hetty as school teacher, but his militant methods of teaching becomes intolerable for the schoolboard committee. Gus Pike begins a heated rivalry with Arthur Pettibone over the right to court Felicity. An American Industrialist plans to purchase Avonlea and convert it into a town of the future. Hetty and Jasper arrange a motion picture presentation to show the town the importance of their community and to reject the proposed offer. Season Five Time Frame: 1908-1909 Highlights: Felix lashes out against his father and rejects the notion of becoming a farmer. Hetty turns 50, but the celebration is soured when her writing contract is cancelled and she must endure a risky operation. A visiting politician offers Alec an opportunity to run for office, but Alec questions the politician's shady dealings. Sara realizes that much of Davey's troublesome behavior is caused by his inability to read. Jasper and Olivia purchase the cannery and apply modern ideas to impove efficiency. Cecily falls ill with tuberculosis and Janet must make a difficult decision whether to send her to a sanitarium. Felix and Izzy purchase a fox farm, but their friendship is threatened when Felix must replace Izzy with another partner. Rachel suffers a stroke and leaves Davey and Dora under Hetty's watch. Upon her return, Rachel struggles to regain her speech and overcome the belief that she is an invalid. Felicity reconsiders medical school after a friend dies during childbirth. Cecily returns from the sanitarium and Felicity learns that tragic news that Gus's ship went down and all hands were lost. Season Seven Time Frame: 1911-1912 Highlights: Felicity and Stuart open a foundling home for orphans. Izzy's Aunt Lilian visits and plans to take Izzy to Boston, but Felix attempts to get her to stay. The Avonlea schoolhouse is threatened with closure and Hetty challenges Carmody to a contest to keep it open. The Avonlea cannery burns to the ground and Jasper and Olivia plan to leave for England. Felicity accepts Stuart's marriage proposal, but when she receives word that Gus may still be alive, the wedding is postponed.
