About Bea

Beatrice Arthur was born in 1923 in New York City. In addition to The Golden Girls, Bea made her mark on television with the character of Maude Findlay in the series Maude. Bea decided to leave The Golden Girls when it was at the top and was written out of the show when she married Blanches Uncle Lucas, played by Leslie Nielson. Although great rapport remained amongst the remaining girls, the spin off from The Golden Girls, The Golden Palace was a flop and was dropped after bad ratings.
